One day after I picked up my daughter from school I finally gave in to her request to make slime. We went to the store an got the saline solution, glue, baking soda and food coloring. I had said no at least a dozen other times before I decided to say yes on that day. All I could think about was this gross slime all over my furniture, couch, and walls. My daughter has brought slime home from school and goodie bags. There was always a huge mess that I had to clean up so I wasn’t to keen on the idea of making and assisting in my own nightmare,

I have heard so many moms say,

We had so much fun making slimE.

Ok, so I gave in. I sat my little munchkin on the counter and started to measure everything as she mixed up this concoction. While she was mixing, she started telling me stories of her friends making slime and all about her day at school. This was such an adorable bonding session. There were lots of smiles and laughing. It was so memorable and I am glad I finally gave in. This time with my daughter was really great. We made two different colors of slime. She played with it a bit while I cleaned up and then minutes later told me she wanted to put it away. I had two containers set aside to put the slime in so it wouldn’t dry out. As we were putting it away she said “What are we going to make next mommy?” In that moment I realized that she didn’t care about making the slime. She just wanted to spend time with me. All the worrying about the mess and clean up was all for nothing. This sweet little child just wanted to do something fun with me. Sometimes I just need to relax and go with the flow. Life is too short to worry about the small things. These simple little moments mean everything in life.

Below is my fave recipe for Borax free slime.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 Cup Elmer’s Glue (Clear or White)
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Baking Soda
  • Food Coloring
  • 1 or 2 Tablespoons Saline Solution
  • Glitter and Scent Oil (Optional)
  • Baby Oil (Optional)

Mix the glue, baking soda and desired amount of food coloring together. Then mix in optional glitter and scent oil. Lastly mix in one or two tablespoons of the contact solution. Once the slime is no longer sticking to the bowl it is ready. You may add a drop of baby oil to help it not be as sticky.
